Quantitative inherent optical property measurements

Our ability to fully exploit the potential of modern computational radiative transfer solutions is severely limited by the quality of available IOP data (absorption, attenuation, scattering). This works involves application of radiative transfer simulation techniques to model instrumentation performance characteristics and development of new / improved sensors.

The HZG Point Source Integrating Cavity Absorption Meter developed by Rudiger Rottgers uses a diffuse light source in an integrating sphere to overcome scattering artefacts in absorption measurements. We are working with HZG on an updated version of the instrument.
